Following Chebukati’s recent announcement, Azimio’s push for manual registration has scored a major victory.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has reversed its position on using an electronic vote register alone, instead including a manual register.

This comes after the court ordered the commission on Thursday, August 4th, not to abandon the manual register in identifying voters in the next week’s polls, stating that denying eligible citizens the right to vote is a violation of the constitution.

Chebukati directed that the Manuel register be used if the KIEMS kit fails during a press conference at the Bomas on Friday.

“We saw the inherent risks associated with the use of printed registers as a result of the 2017 elections. Where we are now, the IEBC must follow the High Court’s decision on the use of manual registers “He stated.

Raila Odinga, the flagbearer of the Azimio One Kenya coalition party, has been at the forefront of championing the use of manual registers, even threatening to boycott the elections if it is not included.

Chebukati also assured Kenyans that they are prepared for the elections and that there is no need for concern.
