Manchester United kicked off their pre-season campaign with an impressive display, thrashing old foes Liverpool 4-0 in Bangkok on Tuesday.
The Red Devils redeemed themselves after losing to the Anfield side 9-0 on aggregate in the last English Premier League campaign.
Erik ten Hag sent a statement to the rest of Premier League clubs with a commanding start in charge of the former EPL champions.
United dominated the entire game with goals from Jadon Sancho, Fred, Anthony Martial and Facundo Pellistri as ten Hag commences the rebuilding process at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag commented on the win;
“We have a lot to do. You see, Liverpool is a brilliant team. When you made mistakes in defending, you get beaten. We had some situations. We did not act well. And immediately they have so much speed they play to, so we conceded some three, four, five really good chances against. So we have a lot of work to do.”
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gave five teenagers q chance to start and did not introduce Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, or summer signing Darwin Nunez until the 61st minute.
On his part, Klopp said;
“The result is there, so we have to accept that,” said Klopp. “But of course I think it’s clear we could have scored our goals as well. Then it would have been an even more spectacular game.
“The goals we gave away for United, we nearly got assists for it, to be honest. But they used the chances and that’s how it is. But I saw a lot of really good stuff from my team as well. The game obviously came a little bit early for us and a few of our players.
“It was pretty clear where we made the mistakes but you have to keep on playing and that’s what we did and we could have scored three or four in the last five minutes – but we didn’t and that’s our fault. Atmosphere great, welcome fantastic, organisation really, really good. But result not.”
