Sibling rivalry took center stage as Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria and Kiambu County Senator Kimani Wamatangi squared off in a Saturday’s Kenya Kwanza tour to Kiambu.
Both Kuria and Wamatangi are seeking to unseat the incumbent Kiambu Governor James Nyoro. Moses Kuria is in the Kiambu gubernatorial race on his Chama Cha Kazi party while Senator Wamatangi is eyeing the same seat on a United Democratic Alliance party ticket.
The joint campaign came days after Kuria complained of unfair treatment by the UDA brigade in Kenya Kwanza camp, despite the affiliated parties backing UDA party leader Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential bid.
On Saturday, Kuria blasted Wamatangi for selfish interest by stating that the Senator did not at a point ask Kiambu residents to vote for Ruto in the August 9 polls but chose to sell his agenda, contrary to the rally’s goal.
“Earth is hard. I have been in this campaign trail for the last 11 hours but not at once have I heard Senator Wamatangi ask you to vote for William Ruto,” Kuria said.
The two leaders continued to publicly try to outdo one another before Senator Wamatangi was whisked away after the crowd became unruly against him.
On his side, Senator Wamatangi urged Kiambu residents to vote in leaders of their choice in peace in the forthcoming general election.
“Give the microphone to Moses Kuria. Let’s hear what he has for you. He is with his Chama Cha Kazi party and we have our own UDA.” Wamatangi said.
However, Wamatangi had a harsh reception while Kuria was seen enjoying the support of his followers.
