Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has revealed that Deputy President William Ruto nearly slapped him and his Interior counterpart Fred Matiang’i in 2018.
Wamalwa’s confession comes amid Ruto’s confirmation that he nearly slapped President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017 when the head of state wanted to quit his disputed election.
Speaking during an Azimio la Umoja- One Kenya campaign in Kakamega on Saturday, Wamalwa stated that in 2018, after a meeting between leaders from the Luhya region and President Kenyatta, DP Ruto was bitter because he was apparently not consulted and demanded a resignation letter from him.
“We had a meeting with president Kenyatta in State House, we were there with my brothers from NASA including Musalia, Wetangula, Oparanya. We brought him to this stadium where he chose Oparanya as the chair of the Revival taskforce of the sugar sector,” Wamalwa recounted.
“The DP was very furious asking why I took the Luhya leaders to the president without his consent. He told me to leave his government and deliver a resignation. Karibu nipate slap ya huyo jamaa. Lakini angeteleza iniguze ningempa uppercut moja.”
The Defence CS further shared that the Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate, William Ruto nearly slapped Interior CS Matiang’i after the launch of a Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program in Kisumu.
“He also wanted to slap Matiang’i. He was so angry with him when we went to Kisumu to unveil the UHC and upon returning to state house, he wanted to slap him. And there are witnesses,” noted Wamalwa.
Eugene Wamalwa urged Kenyans not to entrust Ruto with the the country’s presidency.
“I have forgiven the DP for the embarrassment he caused me. The incidents show that he cannot be trusted with leadership,” Mr Wamalwa said.
Meanwhile, it is exactly 29 days before Kenyans head to the August 9 general election where they will have a chance to elect their leaders in different positions.
