Embattled Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Mike Mbuvi Sonko, who is fighting a slew of court cases that seek to keep him out of the upcoming elections, has expressed confidence in overcoming all obstacles thrown his way by people he refers to as “enemies” who feel threatened by his candidacy.
According to Sonko, his ‘enemies’ have deployed a strategy of keeping them busy in courts where some alleged commissioner is being used to compromise the court process, but above all, Sonko has warned his ‘enemies’ of impending defeat.
Sonko’s case, in which he challenged the electrol commission’s decision to disqualify him, is currently before the Supreme Court, where Chief Justice Martha Koome has appointed a bench to hear the case.
“Currently taking place Hon. Ali Menza Mbogo is now present. Our adversaries’ strategy is to keep us busy in court with IEBC cases in which they have planted their own commissioner in order to influence unconstitutional decisions, but MUNGU ni Nani? Let’s wait and see.” Sonko stated.
In the case before the highest court in the land, Sonko, who is facing an existential crisis in his political career, wants the court to prohibit the IEBC from publishing any candidate for the position of Governor of Mombasa County in the Kenya Gazette.
Sonko, through his lawyers, insisted that he had submitted his nomination documents to the returning officer of Mombasa County on time.
Sonko was also disqualified because of his previous impeachment, in accordance with Article 75(3) of the Constitution, which states that anyone who is removed from office for violating Chapter 6 of the Constitution is barred from holding any other state or public office, whether elective or appointive.
