Following Monday’s protests, the IEBC issues yet another ruling on Senator Irungu Kangata’s gubernatorial bid.

As new details emerge, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has dropped another ruling in favor of Muaranga Senator Irungu Kangata’s gubernatorial bid.

Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Wafula Chebukati has ruled out Muranga Senator Irungu Kangata running for the county’s top seat, despite the fact that he has met all of the requirements.

Chebukati has also confirmed that Irungu Kangata’s rubbing mate, who was alleged to be a stumbling block to his governorship, resigned on time and in accordance with the law.

The report stated, “IEBC clears Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata to run for governorship; confirms his running mate Winnie Mwangi resigned from UoN within set timelines.”

Kangata had protested the IEBC’s decision to bar him from running for Muranga Governor, stating that he was confident that his running mate had met all of the requirements.

According to the Election Act, each state officer who has worked for the government must tender his or her resignation six months before an election if he or she is running for any elective position, with the deadline set for February 9th.
