The presidential campaign for 2022 is already in full swing, with politicians from across Kenya canvassing the streets for votes to succeed President Kenyatta, who is set to step down in August after serving two terms.
The front-runners in the 2019 presidential election are Honorable Raila Amollo Odinga of the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance and Honorable William Samoei Ruto of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
This is because their political parties have gained widespread support in Kenya, making them more popular than other presidential candidates.
If elections were held today, either Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance or Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance would have been elected to succeed President Kenyatta, whose term expires in August.
When Kirinyaga County Senator Charles Kibiru and several Jubilee officials took a courageous step, it was a big boost for the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance. Senator Kibiru and his supporters have stated that they will campaign for Odinga’s presidential campaign, asserting that, contrary to popular assumption, they are not frightened to campaign for Odinga in their own backyard of Mt Kenya.
This erupted after some leaders claimed that Mount Kenya Azimio supporters did not include Odinga’s image on campaign posters.
