The IEBC and Presidential aspirants meeting, convened by IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, was scheduled to begin around 8 a.m. at the Bomas of Kenya and was intended to provide an opportunity for all candidates to be briefed on the requirements and procedures for candidate registration.
Candidates were to submit an electronic version as well as a list of at least 2000 supporters from each of the majority of counties to the IEBC in order to run.
They also had to provide copies of their supporters’ identification documents.
On the 23rd May 2022 at 8:37am,Ptah Solomuzi Gichira was abducted by unknown persons as he made his way to the Bomas of Kenya for the meeting. He was only found by passersby along LungaLunga road in Nairobi close to 24hrs later.
During the abduction process, he lost the following items: all of his signed forms supporting his candidacy; copies of National Identity Cards collected in support of the signatures; an external hard disk and laptop, both of which contained electronic data from the signed forms; and his phone and ID card.
Today the 25th of May 2022,Ptah Solomuzi Gichira a Presidential Aspirant has written a withdrawal letter to the IEBC chairman. Solomuzi cannot continue with his bid for the presidency position.
