Raila Odinga, the presidential candidate of Azimio la Umoja, has named former Gichugu MP and Narc – Kenya party leader Martha Karua as his preferred running mate in the upcoming general elections.
Karua’s nomination comes a day after DP William Ruto announced Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his Kenya Kwanza coalition running mate.
Raila acknowledged Karua as a strong woman who never gives up when naming her as his Deputy.
He recalled how the iron lady represented him in court after he had been arrested and imprisoned without trial during his earlier years fighting for the country’s second liberation.
Raila stated that as Karua assumes her new position, she will also serve as the Azimio government’s cabinet secretary for justice and constitutional affairs.
Raila’s cabinet has also been unveiled, with Wycliffe Oparanya for national treasury and Ali Hassan Joho for lands.
Raila’s government has nominated Kalonzo Musyoka for the position of Chief Minister.
