Raila Odinga, the former Prime Minister, has been told who his running mate must be, and it is not Karua or Peter Kenneth. Wiper leaders, led by Mutula Kilonzo Junior, have stated unequivocally that former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, not Karua or Peter Kenneth, is the best bet for Raila.
Raila Odinga has been attempting to strike a balance between regional issues and issues concerning his running mate, but it is clear that such efforts have yielded little fruit. Kalonzo’s supporters have been working hard, and it’s clear that they don’t want to hear anything about Karua or Peter Kenneth as potential running mates.
Mutula Kilonzo junior has stated that Martha Karua has little support and is unable to provide Raila Odinga with meaningful votes. The leaders have stated unequivocally that the Wiper party leader is capable of garnering more than 3 million votes for Azimio.
Given that the Mt Kenya region is also vying for a larger position, this has undoubtedly hampered Raila’s chances ahead of the August 9th elections. As things currently stand, Kalonzo’s allies have made it clear that it’s either their leader since Running Mate or no deal with Azimio at all, as they’d rather leave the alliance.
