Raila Odinga, the leader of the ODM, was in Kenya today, issuing certificates to all political aspirants who won nominations in the ongoing elections. Other leaders in attendance included Suna East MP Hon Junet Mohammed and Governor Hassan Joho.
During the event, Azimio La Umoja angrily slammed the nomination leaders who have decided to defect from his camp and run for their respective political seats on independent tickets in the upcoming general elections.
Instead of defecting to other options, the Former Prime Minister believes that both losers and winners should stay in Azimio and continue spreading the movement’s political gospel as they drum up support for his presidential bid ahead of the polls.
He went on to say that the aspirants’ decision to defect is selfish and an affront to the party’s and the nation’s democracy.
“You find someone applying to vie for a seat on a certain political party, when they are subjected to nominations and lose, they go independent. My question is, why didn’t they declare their interests in vying as independents before applying to vie on a party ticket?” Raila posed.
This could have a negative impact on his bid for the country’s highest office because he chose to be harsh on losers rather than charming them to stay in his camp ahead of the polls.
