Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been cleared by Wiper Party to contest for Mombasa gubernatorial seat, adding that his papers have been submitted to IEBC for verification, as preparations for wiper nominations in Mombasa County are in top gear ahead of tomorrow’s exercise.
Confirming Sonko`s clearance, Mombasa county Wiper party chairman Sheikh Twaha Omar, disclosed that Sonko will now battle with Ali Mbogo who was initially the only candidate who had already been given the party ticket, the security agencies warned that they will not entertain any act of hooliganisms as witnessed in the previous nominations held in Mombasa.
The Urban police OCPD Joseph Ong’aya, after meeting Wiper party Mombasa county officials said security officers will be deployed in various polling stations to ensure the nomination process in conducted as per the law.
Sheikh Twaha, confirmed that the preparations for the nominations process has been concluded and urged party members to turn up in large numbers and nominate the leaders of their choice, Twaha was speaking at one of the polling station at Old town in Mombasa island.
Sonko is currently facing a series of criminal charges including, corruption assault and terrorism, that has led to the United State of America banning him and his close family members from traveling to the US.
