The matrix of Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga’s running mate position has been changing frequently as notable leaders in his Azimio La Umoja camp have entered.
Before departing for the United Kingdom, Raila stated that he had yet to discuss the position and that ‘he will cross the bridge when he gets there,’ after engaging all Azimio La Umoja affiliate parties.
According to sources who spoke to the iStar on Friday, despite the entry of former One Kenya Alliance principals (Narc Kenya’s Martha Karua, Kanu’s Gideon Moi, and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka) in Azimio, Raila has spotted a good leader and a person who can marshal a large number of votes from Mount Kenya Region in Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui.
Kinyanjui was one of the first governors in the Mount Kenya Region to declare their support for Raila’s State House bid, and has been dependable in organizing various mega rallies across the region.
Residents of Ukambani and Kirinyaga now want Raila’s deputy to be Kalonzo and Martha Karua.
Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, former Gatanga member of parliament Peter Kenneth, and Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege have also been mentioned.
In recent days, Jubilee vice chairperson David Murathe has argued that getting the number two spot is not a must, while reiterating that Raila will win the presidency.
