Why Ruto Must Choose a Running Mate from Mount Kenya, According to Raila’s Spokesperson

Prof. Makau Mutua, the presidential campaign spokesperson for Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement, has indicated that Deputy President William Ruto has limited options in selecting his chosen running mate in the next General Election.

Prof Mutua said in a TV interview on Sunday, March 20, that the DP has just set up camp in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region, pouring resources into the region in an attempt to woo followers.

He went on to say that Odinga had a much better chance of picking a running mate from any section of the country because he had gathered support from across the country.

“I don’t believe that the choice of a running partner will be a deciding factor in Azimio la umoja’s campaign. As you can see from the polls, we are extremely pleased with where we are. In comparison to our competition, we have more flexibility “Mutua stated his opinion.

The law professor responded to Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s contentious comments concerning the coalition agreement’s signing.
Kalonzo made the statement, according to Mutua, because he was seeking to find his footing within the Azimio family.

The former Vice President’s reservations will be smoothed out over time as they develop a powerful force to take on the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, according to a vocal ally of Odinga.

“Kalonzo is well aware of the stakes in this country’s General Election. Musyoka is attempting to find his place inside the Azimio la Umoja movement, which is fine “He made a point.

Even as the Azimio la Umoja looks for a running mate ahead of the polls, Raila’s presidential campaign spokesperson hinted at what the Azimio la Umoja is searching for. He believes that someone with the numbers as well as a leader who is ready to lead from the start would be the ideal fit.

Many consider the decision of running mate to be a make-or-break moment for either the Azimio la Umoja movement or the Kenya Kwanza alliance.

In the run-up to the General Election, critics and analysts have backed a running mate candidate from the Mt Kenya region as the best option for either group.
Even as the clock ticks down to August 9, Raila and Ruto are keeping their cards close to their chests.
