Former Meru Governor and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya has been supported as a running mate for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga by a group of politicians from the vote-rich Mt Kenya area.
Former Meru Governor was endorsed by leaders of his party, the Party of National Unity (PNU), which convened its National Delegates Conference today, Thursday, February 25th.
The leaders, led by former Ministry of Sports Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Zack Kunuthia, sought ODM Boss to choose Peter Munya as the best-suited candidate for the role.
Kinuthia warned Raila not to let any distracted Politicians pursuing the same position in the Azimio La Umoja Political Faction, stating that most of them were motivated by personal and selfish motives in an attempt to’stress’ his opinion.
Munya was moved by the opinion and welcomed the endorsement, stating that he was the favored candidate among all those named from the Mount Kenya region.
He also stated that the PNU will collaborate closely with the Jubilee Party, implying that President Uhuru will lead the negotiations with the Azimio La Umoja Movement.
“The endorsement is welcome. Is there any problem with that? I will not be far away. I am close and by the grace of God, our dream will come true.
“We have also resolved that the party leader of Jubilee to negotiate on behalf of PNU in the Azimio La Umoja negotiations,” stated Munya.
Munya’s endorsement comes just days after President Uhuru praised Agriculture CS, calling him a transformative leader.
Munya had revolutionized the Ministry of Agriculture since his appointment during the second term of the Jubilee administration, according to Uhuru.
“One year and a half under Munya’s leadership, coffee has money returns, tea farmers have fertilizer, dairy farmers have a minimum guarantee,” stated Uhuru.
As a result of the support, CS Peter Munya joins the list of other Mount Kenya leaders trying to deputize Raila, including Martha Karua of Nark Kenya and Peter Kenneth.
