In West Pokot and Elgeiyo Marakwet counties, respectively, insecurity has been widespread in recent days. Locals have been mercilessly attacked by bandits. Despite Dr Fred Matiang’i, Minister of Interior, promised to stop the bandits, there has been no result thus far.
Yesterday evening, a school bus carrying Tot Secondary School pupils was attacked by bandits who opened fire on the bus, injuring several children. The incident prompted Elgeiyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen to challenge the Interior CS and Inspector General of Police’s attempts to ensure the area was secure.
One Kenyan took to Facebook to inquire what Deputy President Dr William Ruto had done to solve the situation. The Kenyan appears to have misunderstood that the DP’s office is not responsible for security problems.
“Stop playing politics with security issues, brother. Why haven’t you named the second in command (Dr Ruto), and what is he doing about it?” one of the Kenyans inquired
However, most people were offended by his remark, accusing him of connecting everything with DP Ruto, despite the fact that he is not in charge of security. His remark infuriated Senator Murkomen, who retorted aggressively.
“…no one will buy your intellect. “It’s not even for sale at public auction.” Senator Murkomen responded.
The Ministry of Interior and the Inspector General have yet to reply to the attack. What do you think should be done to put an end to the region’s insecurity?
