The office of the Registrar of Political Parties has denied allegations that it told the IEBC not to clear Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka for the presidency.
The ORPP labeled the reports as fraudulent on Friday.
There was widespread speculation that Kalonzo’s bid for a second term as president had ended.
According to unsubstantiated rumors, the ORPP directed the IEBC to deny Kalonzo’s clearance because he was still a member of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance.
The Wiper leader, as well as his party, have yet to respond to the reports.
Kalonzo announced his running mate on the same day that ODM leader Raila Odinga announced Martha Karua as his deputy presidential candidate.
The Wiper CEO has declared his intention to run for president in the August 9 elections.
According to sources, the Wiper party has not yet requested to leave the partnership in writing.
According to the agreement filed with the ORPP, an Azimio member party cannot leave the alliance six months before the election.
Members must also agree to remain in the coalition for three months after the election before considering leaving.
This means that Azimio’s constituents have the legal right to leave the organization as early as December of this year.
