Kalonzo Musyoka’s Mwingi Cottages Resort: A Political Leader’s Multi-Million-Dollar Venture

In addition to his extensive political career, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has proven to be a shrewd businessman, with a portfolio that includes various properties and income-generating assets. One notable venture is the Mwingi Cottages Resort, located in the heart of Mwingi, a town in his Ukambani stronghold.

After a prolonged closure, the resort underwent renovations in 2022, signaling its impending revival. The journey to restore the resort was not without its challenges.

Back in 2011, a Chinese company earmarked a section of the hotel for demolition to make way for the tarmacking of the Mwingi-Kyuso-Tseikuru road. The conference hall, hotel laundry house, and even the gate were all marked for demolition due to their encroachment on the road reserve.

However, in a testament to Kalonzo’s determination, the Mwingi Cottages Resort reopened its doors to the public at the beginning of 2023, showcasing a host of impressive amenities.

Visitors can now enjoy a refreshing swim in the resort’s swimming pool, savor delicious meals at the restaurant, and retreat to spacious rooms adorned with modern fittings. Undoubtedly, the resort has emerged as one of the premier hospitality establishments in the otherwise tranquil Mwingi town.

Aside from his resort, Kalonzo Musyoka possesses a range of other valuable assets. These include a sprawling 200-acre farm in Yatta, a collection of six vehicles, a luxurious mansion valued at over Ksh800 million situated in Nairobi’s prestigious Karen neighborhood, and multiple apartments scattered throughout the capital city.
