The Pamoja African Alliance and the Kenya Kwanza Alliance have reached an agreement.

Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi made the announcement on Tuesday.

According to the agreement, if DP William Ruto is elected on August 9, his government will ensure that all recent operational changes affecting Coastal people are reversed.

“Their effect has been to relocate some of the core activities of Kenya’s main seaport from Mombasa to inland ports in Nairobi and Naivasha,” he said.

The PAA-Kenya Kwanza agreement states that the legislative measure to reform the re-locations will be undertaken within a year effective August 9, 2022.

The Kenya Kwanza administration agreed to implement the necessary reforms to ensure that Lamu Port generates measurable employment and other economic benefits for residents of the Coast.

The third agenda item was for Ruto’s administration to revitalize the cashew nut and coconut industries in the Coast region by providing farmers with funds.

“Involve local communities in the management and benefit-sharing of the Blue Economy’s resources,” Kingi advised.

Furthermore, DP Ruto’s administration will be required to establish a benefit-sharing arrangement between national and local governments in the mining and other natural resource sectors.

The Alliance promised to review the Coast Guard Act and improve protection for fishing and other activities in local communities.

They have also agreed to address historical land injustices, particularly in the Coastal region, by establishing Land Compensation Funds.

“This is to help locals gradually acquire or purchase land from landlords,” Kingi explained.

He stated that if Ruto is elected President, the budget will be reviewed to accommodate the reforms that will take effect immediately following the General Election.

Kenya Kwanza is also expected to advocate for the inclusion of the coastal region in the management of national assets assigned to the region.

“Finally, it will ensure equitable representation of Coast region residents in national government and diplomatic staff of the public servant,” Kingi added.
