President William Ruto believes that street protests are not the solution to the challenges faced by Kenyans. He urges Kenyans to engage in farming and other development activities to reduce the high cost of living. He also urged Kenyans to take advantage of the ongoing rains to produce enough food instead of resorting to unnecessary demonstrations.
According to the President, it is time to address the challenges facing the people and not look for positions to benefit a few leaders. He cautioned the Opposition leader, Raila Odinga, to be mindful of the welfare of Kenyans and not to pursue personal gains.
President Ruto assured Kenyans that the government’s development agenda would not be derailed by the threats of the Opposition. He reiterated that the government’s focus was on development activities aimed at improving the country’s economy. The President spoke at Gachie grounds during the launch of a Sh 3.3 billion road project in Kiambu County. The 90km road will benefit residents of Kìambu, Kìambaa, and Limuru constituencies.
In addition to launching the road project, the President also launched water projects in Narok town and Suswa in Narok County. He emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming the lives of youths across the country through development initiatives. The President also mentioned that the government’s plan to have more than 2 million Kenyans own homes through affordable housing would create thousands of jobs for the youth.
The Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, urged the Opposition to choose between dialogue and demonstrations. He assured Kenyans that the government would secure their lives and property if the Opposition resumes demonstrations.
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwa and Kiharu MP Dindi Nyoro said they were ready to engage the Opposition in Parliament on matters of IEBC and not anything to do with the handshake. They urged the Opposition to respect the will of the majority of Kenyans who elected President Ruto.
They dismissed calls by the Opposition on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to have Inspector General of Police Japeth Koome take responsibility for alleged police brutality during the recent demonstrations, stating that the Opposition leader Raila Odinga and his sponsor should be held responsible for the lives lost and property destroyed during the demonstrations.
CS Moses Kuria (Trade and investment), Governors Kimani wa Matangi (Kiambu), Patrick Ntutu (Narok), Joseph ole Lenku (Kajiado), and several MPs were also present during the launch of the road project.
