Kung’u Muigai, patron of the National Council of Elders and President Uhuru Kenyatta’s first cousin, has revealed how ODM leader Raila Odinga declined their invitation to meet with him.
The council, which was made up of elders from Kenya’s 42 communities, was concerned about the growing schism between President Uhuru, Raila, and DP Ruto.
During a council meeting, Kung’u told the Standard, there was some disagreement about President Uhuru’s succession.
President Uhuru, the council believed, had broken his promise to support his presidency by abandoning DP Ruto in favor of Raila.

The elders offered to mediate between Uhuru, Raila, and Ruto in order to heal a previously existing schism.
They sought a meeting with Raila Odinga, the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance flagbearer.
Their efforts, however, were in vain. They claimed Raila ignored their request and gave no explanation for his refusal to meet with them.
