The incumbent governor of Meru County, Kiraitu Murungi, joined the Azimio la Umoja Coliation yesterday, ushering in a new political era in the county. Residents and leaders were taken aback, as the governor had previously stated that he would not take sides in national politics.

Kiraitu’s decision to join Azimio has prompted Uda aligned Mps, of which there are many in the county, to devise a strategy to fight him. Kathuri Murungi, the Mp for Imenti South, was among the first to comment on the matter.
The mp has stated on his Facebook page that the battleground has been drawn on all elective seats and that it would be Kenya kwanza vs Azimio coalition, stressing that their challengers should be prepared for a tough competition.

Kathuri, who announced previously that he will run for Senator in Meru County, and his Uda counterpart Mithika Linturi for Governor, are likely to give Azimio rival Governor Kiraitu and Cs Munya a strong race, with political observers calling Meru votes as swing votes.
