Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has caused President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga a new headache by writing to the registrar of political parties to stop their alliance’s registration. The party is dealing with a number of issues that must be addressed immediately.
Two of Kalonzo’s allies, Daniel Maanzo (Makueni MP) and Enock Wambua (Kitui Senator), told the People Daily on Tuesday evening that there are two irreducible minimums that must be met for their party to continue supporting Raila’s presidency.
“All else is a waste of time.” Only a meeting of the three leaders will allow us to discuss and sort out our demands. The ball is now in Uhuru and Raila’s court to call the meeting. It is now up to them to decide whether or not we should proceed by responding to our two demands,” Maanzo told People Daily.
The first unassailable requirement is that Raila Odinga’s running mate in the upcoming general election be Kalonzo Musyoka. The second irreducible minimum is a meeting of the three key principals to agree on coalition management.
“Aside from the position of the DP, the three main principals must meet and champion the management of the proposed coalition political party,” Wambua said.
In a press conference on Tuesday following a meeting with the secretary generals of all Azimio-One Kenya coalition parties, coalition secretary-general Raphael Tuju acknowledged that the coalition was in turmoil. He did, however, express confidence that it would be resolved in due course.
