Twitter has changed the label on the BBC’s main account from “government-funded media” to “publicly funded” following objections from the broadcaster.
Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, stated in an interview with the BBC on Tuesday that he would make the change as “we’re trying to be accurate”, despite the BBC disputing the original description.
Twitter also used the same “government-funded” label for US public broadcaster NPR, leading the broadcaster to announce that it would no longer post fresh content on the social media platform.
The BBC welcomes the label change and its Royal Charter states that it must be independent
