Just as things were beginning to calm down, Deputy President William Ruto’s name was dragged back to the International Criminal Court (ICC). This occurred during the final seating of Paul Gicheru, the lawyer accused of interfering with witnesses in the Ruto and Journalist Joshua Sang case.
Gicheru was charged with 8 counts of witness interference during the final seating, which lasted an hour and was led by Anton Steinberg. During the prosecution, Ruto’s name was frequently mentioned, as the prosecution claimed that he was the primary beneficiary of Gicheru’s witness interference.
“If accepted by the Chamber, the prosecution’s evidence clearly establishes that the accused is guilty of all charges… “It establishes beyond a reasonable doubt the accused’s critical role in the execution of the witness interference scheme, which was carried out for the benefit of William Samoei Ruto,” Steinberg said.
The Prosecution stated that they have presented sufficient evidence to prove Gicheru’s guilt and that he should be charged. So far, 8 witnesses have testified in court that Gicheru was involved in witness interference.
