The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has broken its silence after four of its officials were arrested after a meeting behind closed doors at a parliamentary candidate’s Homa Bay county residence was discovered.
According to IEBC Commissioner Irene Masit, the IEBC is aware of the incident and has requested that DPP Haji investigate it.
“The IEBC is aware of this and has already forwarded it to the DPP for investigation. We usually train our employees who take a confidentiality oath. If it is discovered that they have broken the law, they will be held accountable and prosecuted “Masit stated.
The officials are made up of a presiding officer, two deputy presiding officers, and a clerk. The four men had been hired by the commission to staff the Kwabwai and Kanyadoto wards.
According to media reports, county residents learned about the secret meeting and rushed to the politician’s home to disrupt it.
