Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, the Minister of Electricity, has presented a gloomy forecast for the country’s electricity supply ahead of this winter season.
However, he has drafted an action plan that aims to reduce the occurrence of rolling blackouts. The plan has already been presented to the Cabinet and the ruling African National Congress (ANC) National Working Committee (NWC).
According to Ramokgopa, the plan outlines immediate measures that can be taken to prevent higher stages of rolling blackouts this winter and beyond.
He acknowledges the increasing demand for electricity and the unreliability of the grid, but assures that his proposal includes measures to address these issues. The Minister hopes that the interventions proposed will ensure that this winter will not be as severe as it seems.
