The family members and funeral committee organizing the burial of Stephen Maloba, the slain Kisa East MCA, have postponed the event from April 22 to an unspecified date.
They cited the need to keep the case open as the reason for the delay. Maloba was fatally stabbed on April 1 during a political event organized by Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka in Munjiti village, Kisa East Ward.
Following the attack, villagers launched violent attacks on Mutsasa police post, destroyed the property of Kisa East chief Walter Mukungu, and stole 124 bags of fertiliser.
The family and committee chair Gabriel Erambo accused the police of laxity in investigating the case and claimed that some of the attackers were still at large.
The family wants the suspects arraigned in court on Monday before they proceed with the burial. Kakamega County Commissioner Joseph Ondego warned against any incitement to violence during the burial and urged the public to allow the police to complete their investigation.
