Dr. Wilfred Machage, Kenya’s high commissioner to Nigeria, died last week in Nigeria following a brief illness. Kenyans were led in mourning Ambassador Wilfred Machage by President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The late ambassador Wilfred Machage’s funeral is currently taking place at his remote home in Migori county’s Kuria East constituency. Leaders, family members, and local residents are mourning the death of Kenya’s ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Wilfred Machage.

Several key officials, including former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, are in attendance. Defense cabinet secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Kisii governor James Ongwae, Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Raila Odinga’s wife Mama Ida Odinga, former UNCTAD secretary general Mukhisa Kituyi, Migori senator Ochilo Ayacko, and other elected figures are among those in attendance.

Governor of Kisii James Ongwae described the late ambassador as a selfless and dedicated leader who diligently served his people and country.
“A selfless leader who served his people and his nation with commitment,” Kisii governor James Ongwae posted on his official Facebook page, referring to a two-term Kuria East MP, a first-time Migori senator, and a former cabinet secretary.

The late ambassador was a two-term member of parliament for the Kuria East constituency before running for the Migori senate seat in the 2013 elections. He was elected to the seat and became the first senator from Migori. He also held positions such as cabinet secretary and other high-ranking posts.
