President Ruto Asserts Government Won’t Borrow to Pay Wages, Insists Situation Under Control

President William Ruto has affirmed that the government will not take out loans to pay wages for public servants, and has stated that the situation is under control. He assured the public that the government is working to ensure that the economy stabilizes and that wages are paid on time.

Speaking in Nairobi on Tuesday, President Ruto stated that the government has taken measures to increase revenue and reduce expenditure, including cutting down on non-essential spending and implementing a performance management system for public servants. He added that the government is exploring new revenue streams, including partnerships with the private sector, to boost its income.

President Ruto also noted that the recent increase in the dollar exchange rate has not affected the government’s ability to pay wages, and he projected that the dollar rate would go down to below Ksh.120 in the next few months. He urged Kenyans to be patient and not to panic, as the government is taking steps to address the issue.

The president’s remarks come amid concerns over the government’s ability to pay wages for public servants, with some officials calling for a reduction in the size of the civil service. However, President Ruto has reiterated that the government is committed to retaining all public servants and will not engage in any retrenchment exercises.

In conclusion, President Ruto has urged Kenyans to have faith in the government and its ability to manage the country’s finances. He emphasized that the government is taking decisive action to ensure that the country’s economy is on a sound footing and that public servants are paid on time.
