President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research (KUTRRH) Level 6 Hospital’s catheterization laboratory in Kiambu County on Saturday.
The laboratory, commonly referred to as ‘cath lab’, is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging facilities for diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The facility is aimed at improving the health sector in Kiambu, its surroundings and even nationally.
The Head of State also presided over the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a World Health Organization (WHO) regional and sub-global emergency operations and logistics hub at the health facility.
Healthcare was among President Kenyatta’s big four agenda when he was elected in office in 2013. Uhuru Kenyatta seems is trying to leave a mark in the sensitive sector that has been having its fair share of challenges in his last three two years in office.
Kenyatta’s government was put to test in the fight against the global scourge of coronavirus that originated from Wuhan city of China in late 2019. The pandemic that has been ravaging the world further stretched the country’s health sector that has been ailing for long.
However, despite the current development, the ministry of health has been on the spot for mismanagement of covid-19 funds according to the findings of the office of the Auditor General.
