Political Shock for Conservatives as Dominic Raab Quits Over Bullying Allegations

Dominic Raab, the UK Deputy Prime Minister, resigned on Friday after an inquiry upheld claims of bullying against him. This comes as a setback for the Conservatives just two weeks before local elections, where they are expected to lose seats.

Raab’s resignation from his position also puts pressure on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who is trying to recover from lost ground to the Labour party before the next general election.

Although Raab was cleared of most of the allegations, he disagreed with the inquiry’s conclusions and claimed that they set a dangerous precedent for the conduct of good government. He also resigned from his post as justice secretary.

Raab, a karate black belt, denied bullying civil servants and claimed that ministers must be able to exercise direct oversight over critical negotiations. Sunak, who succeeded Liz Truss last year, has vowed to restore integrity and professionalism in government after Boris Johnson’s tenure.
