On Sunday, Inspector-General of Police Japheth Koome told journalists that the National Police Service (NPS) is not afraid of threats.
His response was in relation to the Azimio coalition’s letter to the International Criminal Court (ICC) regarding alleged police brutality against opposition supporters during anti-government demonstrations.
The coalition’s move signalled a possible confrontation with President William Ruto’s administration. Koome emphasised that the NPS’s primary goal is to serve the public, and that officers should serve without bias or intimidation.
He warned that the NPS will take appropriate action should Azimio’s Sunday meeting turn violent. Koome stressed that the NPS will not allow Kenya to experience the same violence as in Sudan.
