Every 7th of July, Kenyans celebrate Sabasaba, which marks the beginning of political outcry for free and fair elections, but as of today, the day has gone unnoticed, with current political leaders remaining silent on the matter, as they have in previous years.
Kenyans from all over the country took to the streets 32 years ago to protest the arrest of Kenneth Matiba and Charles Rubia, who wanted to introduce a free election mode into the system in which multiple parties could participate.
The years-long struggle, which included the late President Mwai Kibaki, saw several people injured and arrested, but in the end, the entrance of multiple parties was witnessed, and Kenyans began to vote freely again.
