Police officers assigned to the Naivasha sub-county tallying station were left with cold chills after one of their close colleagues contemplated suicide, much to his chagrin.
According to sources, the victim, Corporal George Morara, was in the administration office with his accomplices waiting to be ferried to their polling station at the time of the incident.
Morara, on the other hand, excused himself before leaving the office and went to another room where he attempted the unthinkable.
He drew his gun and pointed it at his chin before pulling the trigger, drawing the attention of his colleagues, who scurried to the scene to satisfy their curiosity. When they arrived, Morara was unconscious on the floor in a pool of blood.
It took their efforts to get him to the hospital for emergency treatment, and he narrowly avoided death despite suffering a serious injury to his face.
A police report confirmed the incident, stating, “Morara was found lying on the ground having shot himself through the chin and the bullet exiting the upper part of the nostrils using a sceska.”
Among the evidence discovered was a gun with a 14-round magazine and one empty 9 mm cartridge.
Meanwhile, the region’s sleuths have launched an investigation to determine the victim’s motivations.
