Nimeraruliwa T-shirt yangu ya Jubilee – Bahati cries for safety

Mathare Constituency parliamentary aspirant Kevin ‘Bahati’ Kioko has claimed his life is in danger.

This comes a day after the artist attended Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya campaign rally on Sunday in Mathare which was led by the coalition’s presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

In his series of social media posts on Monday, Bahati shared a video of him with a torn Jubilee T-shirt, saying his competitor sent goons to attack him.

“I’m fighting for the people of Mathare. They are still living a hard life…” The singer said after attending the Azimio rally on Sunday, he was attacked.

“My opponent has been sending a lot of threats and he sent me goons and wameiniacha hivi. Wameniraulia my Jubilee polo t-shirt…” he said.

“Kwa yote nasemehea and I know all that napitia is because of a reason and because of the reason, I’m not stepping down. I’ll still be on the ballot,” he said.

“I thought I should share this… I don’t feel safe anymore but I will fight for the people of Mathare till the end ,” he posted.

Meanwhile, Mr Odinga publicly endorsed the incumbent Mathare Constituency MP Anthony Oluoch who is seeking to retain his seat under the ODM ticket in the August general election.

Raila asked Bahati to let Oluoch fight go for his seat, promising to reserve a government job for the musician.

“Hapa Mathare, kama Baba nina wanangu wawili katika kinyang’anyiro. Mnataka niwashauri kama Baba? Hili ndilo ninalotaka… Nina Oluoch na Bahati, hili ndilo ninaloamua… Nitashika mkono wa Bahati. (Here in Mathare, as Baba I know I have two children in the same race. Do you want me to advice you as Baba? This is what I want…I have Oluoch and Bahati, and this is what I have decided… I will hold Bahati’s hand),” Raila said.

However, Bahati has since refused to quit the Mathare Parliamentary seat contests in favour of Oluoch. He insists he will be on the ballot on a Jubilee ticket after he was finally cleared to run by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission earlier on.

“Cleared by IEBC and My Party Jubilee… Blessed by GOD Na Watu wa Mathare Wameamua next MP ni Bahati Kioko,”

ODM resorted to zoning in a bid to avoid losing their votes in areas perceived to be their strongholds.
