Miguna Miguna, a Canadian-based lawyer, has finally spoken out after the Mombasa High Court issued another landmark ruling allowing former Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko to run for the Mombasa County gubernatorial seat.
The three-judge bench hinted in its ruling that Mike Sonko, who is seeking to become the second Governor of Mombasa County, is eligible to run under the new Constitution.
And now, embattled lawyer Miguna Miguna has finally delivered an honest verdict on the ruling, noting that impeachment cannot be used to prevent any political leader from running for an elective seat, as it has in most countries.
Miguna Miguna’s remarks indicate that he has agreed with the three-judge bench to allow Mike Sonko to run for the Mombasa County gubernatorial seat because it is required by law.
“The three-judge bench in Mombasa has once again vindicated me. As I previously stated, IMPEACHMENT is NOT a criminal conviction that can bar someone from running for public office. In Kenya, no. Not at all.” He took note.
