A nursing student participating in the Uasin Gishu County program in Finland has died by suicide in his room, with the reasons behind his action remaining unknown.
The student, identified as Rodgers Kipruto Kosgey, passed away on Tuesday, according to reports. Governor Jonathan Bii, in a social media post, expressed his sorrow and shock at the news of Kipruto’s passing, noting that the student hailed from Tarakwa ward in Kesses sub-county.
Kipruto, who had an unwavering commitment to making a positive difference in society, departed for Finland in September 2022 to study nursing at the Laurea University Tikkurila campus as part of the county’s overseas education program.
Bii extended his condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased student. The Uasin Gishu County program has over 300 students, but it has encountered difficulties recently due to corruption and alleged diversion of funds meant to cover student fees, with the matter currently being investigated by the EACC, and three county officers suspended.
