A man who previously placed the LGBTQ rainbow flag on Mt. Kenya and subsequently saw it taken down has vowed to repeat the act in defiance.
@juelz_loverl, who was accompanied by his friend Alex when they originally placed the flag in 2019, stated on Twitter that he plans to repeat the gesture in 2023, despite the recent destruction of the flag by a group of Kikuyu traditionalists.
The group, known as Booi wa Kirira Kia Mugikuyu, had raised funds to climb the mountain and remove the flag, which they saw as an affront to their cultural and spiritual beliefs.
They subsequently burned the flag and performed cleansing rites, while the ashes were thrown into a river. Some individuals on Twitter expressed disagreement with the idea of placing the flag back on the mountain, while others supported it.
