KICC: Today is a big day for Raila because Uhuru will be there to witness his coronation.

NAIROBI, March 12– Raila Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), was set to be crowned the flag bearer of coalition party Azimio La Umoja on Saturday, officially launching his fifth bid for the presidency.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has been vocal in his support for Odinga’s candidacy, is expected to attend Odinga’s coronation at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) ahead of a public rally in Jacaranda.

More than 300 Azimio La Umoja delegates are expected to crown Odinga for Kenya’s highest office at the Azimio La Umoja National Delegates Conference (NDC). Following that, the former Prime Minister will lead the team to a large rally at Nairobi’s Jacaranda Field, where he will be introduced to the public. ” Since then, fifteen political parties affiliated with the Azimio La Umoja movement have supported Odinga for president. The resolution for Odinga to run for president was ratified by the respective National Conference of party delegates.

The Jubilee Party, led by President Kenyatta, the ODM Party, the National Unity Party (PNU), the Upya Movement, linked to Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani, and the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), linked to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi are among them.

The others are: Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Kitui Governor Charity Ngili, Maendeleo Chap Chap of Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, Ubuntu Peoples Forum Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, and Kenya West Pokot Union Party Governor John Lonyangapuo.

Ali Roba, Governor of Kilifi Amason Kingi Pamoja Africa Alliance, Meru Kiraitu Murungi Devolution Empowerment Party, Makueni Kivutha Kibwana Kenya Muungan Party, and Mandera United Democratic Movement, all support the Azimio movement. One Kenya Alliance (OKA) directors such as Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Gideon Moi (Kanu), Martha Karua (Narc Kenya), and Cyrus Jirongo of the United Democratic Party (UDP) are expected to attend the KICC event.

The principals signed a coalition agreement binding them under OKA on Friday and pledged their allegiance to the Alliance even as it emerged that discontent is brewing over the Azimio- OKA deal due to mistrust. ” We have postponed the signing to resolve the legal issues that have arisen. In the spirit of national unity, we are united as constituents by the ideal that unites us, ” Karua affirmed.
