Kanini Kega, a Kieni Member of Parliament, has elicited mixed reactions after launching an indirect attack on the United Democratic Alliance, led by Deputy President William Ruto, amid running mate anxiety.
Deputy President William Ruto was set to announce his running mate for the upcoming general elections. As Kenyans wait in anticipation, anxiety has grown as they speculate on who the Second in Command will select.
Among the names proposed are Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua, Ndindi Nyoro, and Kithure Kindiki. Demonstrations have also occurred in Nyeri county, with some residents chanting “No Rigathi, No Ruto.” They have threatened to boycott Ruto if he does not choose Rigathi Gachagua.
Kanini has now celebrated the escalation of tensions by indirectly criticizing the United Democratic Alliance. According to him, this is the beginning of the end of yellow fever.
“Ya yellow fever, the beginning of the end!” Kanini Kega is mentioned.
Kenyans have also responded, claiming that the writing is on the wall. Others have downplayed the tension, claiming that their home is peaceful and that only minor disagreements are being resolved.
