With only a few days until the Azimio One Kenya alliance announces its running mate, lawmakers aligned with Azimio have asked to be considered before the May 16 deadline.
According to a reliable source, Raila Odinga will select his deputy during a rally in Kamkunji on Sunday.
According to Kamba elders, Raila may abandon Kalonzo in favor of a politician from Mount Kenya, possibly Martha Karua.
Akamba elders have advised Raila that if he chooses Karua or Peter Kenneth, he will lose Ukambani support. If Kalonzo deputizes Raila, they promise to only appeal to the community for Azimio’s support.
Wiper’s supporters claimed that their leader had what it took to run for president, claiming that they had gathered the required number of signatures from the IEBC.
Mike Sonko, the Mombasa governor candidate, assured Raila that he would be the next president only if he chose the wiper party boss as his running mate.
Raila Odinga, the ODM leader, on the other hand, has dismissed Kalonzo Musyoka’s role in delivering Ukambani votes to him ahead of the 2022 national elections in August.
According to The Star Publication, Raila believes Kalonzo has no power in the region compared to other Ukambani leaders such as Ngilu and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana.
Ngilu has been tasked with overseeing his campaign in Ukambani, with the help of Muungano Party chairman Kivutha Kibwana.
Kalonzo, on the other hand, has threatened to drop Azimio and concentrate on the presidency if Raila does not choose him as his running mate, a position that has largely favored Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua.
Kalonzo’s supporters are said to have signed a petition requesting that he appear before the Registrar of Political Parties and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to be listed as a candidate for the country’s top seat.
