Indian Air Force Jets on Standby for Evacuation of Indians as Sudan Quickly Goes up in Flames

The Indian government is taking measures to evacuate Indian nationals from Sudan amidst the country’s security crisis. Two C-130J aircraft of the Indian Air Force are on standby in Jeddah, while INS Sumedha has reached Port Sudan, as part of preparation for evacuation.

The External Affairs Ministry issued a statement on the matter, stating that the government is making all out efforts to ensure the safety and security of Indians stranded in Sudan. The statement also noted that the embassy is in regular contact with the stranded Indians and advising them on safe movement.

The Indian government is coordinating with various partners to ensure the safe movement of Indians stranded in Sudan. Saudi Arabia recently evacuated a number of Indian nationals from the country. However, overland movement currently poses risks due to the ongoing fierce fighting in Sudan. Any movement via ground would depend on the emerging situation.

Sudan’s airspace is currently closed for all foreign aircraft, while overland movement presents logistical challenges. The Indian authorities are in regular touch with the UN, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and the US among others to find viable solutions for the evacuation of Indian nationals from Sudan.

The statement emphasized that the government is closely monitoring the complex and evolving security situation in Sudan. It is also coordinating all possible assistance, including possible exit from Khartoum city as and when the security situation permits safe movement.

The safety and security of Indian nationals are the government’s top priority, and it is taking all necessary measures to ensure their safety during these trying times.
