Igathe Explains Why He Quit His Job as Nairobi Deputy Governor, Claiming He Was Paid to Do Nothing

Polycarp Igathe, an Azimio La Umoja gubernatorial aspirant, has spoken out about why he left a well-paying job as the Nairobi Deputy Governor.

Igathe made the statement in an attempt to persuade Nairobi residents that he was worthy of being elected governor in the upcoming general elections.

He claimed that Kenya is the only country that pays people to do nothing and emphasized that he is a performer at what he does.

“Kenya is the only country I’ve ever seen where people are paid to do nothing. That is why I stepped down. I will never accept a salary in exchange for nothing. In Equity Bank, I discovered a ksh500 billion balance sheet and left it with ksh1.2 trillion. I am a performer who also acts. I am the man you require.”

The politician is known to have held senior positions in the country and abroad with major corporations such as Coca-Cola and East African Breweries. In 2017, he served as Nairobi’s deputy governor under then-governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko.

Top responses to Igathe’s statement;

“Any right thinking Nairobian should try Igathe…voting for a green horn who has never done administration of any kind in their life should be left to Thurakus who vote to massage their ego.”
