“I Won Fairly,” says UDA’s Simon Mbugua, who claims Amos Mwango’s victory was illegally announced.

Simon Mbugua, the United Democratic Alliance party’s candidate for Starehe constituency, has contested the recently announced results that Jubilee party candidate Amos Mwango won in the recently concluded elections.

Mbugua has claimed that Mwango was not declared in accordance with the constitution, claiming that the returning officer who announced him was not the one who gazetted him.

“According to the law, only a gazetted returning officer can declare an election winner. Kamanda and company, you brought your EIBC friend to announce who did not win.” Mbugua made the announcement on his social media pages.

He claimed to have won in all polling stations, implying that he will take further action but not specifying whether he will go to court.

“I won fairly in all polling stations, and now we’re preparing for the next round,” Mbugua said.

Mwango won the hotly contested seat with 50,700 votes, while Simon Mbugua of the UDA received 35,000 votes.
