The Agano party presidential candidate in the August polls David Mwaure has attacked Roots Party leader Professor George Wajackoyah for his bhang legalisation proposal.
Speaking at the KICC during the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission election preparedness debate on Monday, Mwaure said growing weed is still illegal in Kenya, contrary to Wajackoyah’s agenda of growing marijuana for export should he be elected president in the August polls
“I am praying that when we win and you join my government, you can be a Bishop. Growing weed is illegal; you’re a lawyer like me, let’s be leaders of following the law,” Mwaure told Wajackoyah.
“My running mate and I are in this race because we believe that we need a stronger democracy in our nation; let’s say no to corruption,” he added.
The presidential hopeful further urged IEBC to focus on delivering smooth and credible election.
“We urge you to be focused in delivering smooth and credible elections & not to allow yourselves to be sidetracked We support IEBC and as Agano Party, we pledge to keep peace.” He said.
In his defence, Professor Wajackoyah clarified that he does not smoke bhang and that the production of the crop will be for medicinal purposes.
Wajackoyah went on to urge candidates seeking to succeed the retiring President Uhuru Kenyatta to conduct their campaigns with utter respect for one another.
“We, the Roots Party, the so-called marijuana people, we are peaceful; we are not advocating for smoking.You will not hear me talk against any Presidential candidate in the debate; let’s respect each other -George Wajackoyah.” He said.
Meanwhile, IEBC on Sunday gazetted names of aspirants seeking to be elected in different leadership positions.
