Mike Mbuvi Sonko, the former governor of Nairobi, declared a few weeks ago that he was joining Kenya Kwanza after being denied entry into the election for governor of Mombasa, where he intended to be governor. Sonko tried to win on the Wiper party ticket, but he was unsuccessful. Sonko dropped his bid to become Governor of Joho after joining Ruto’s camp and is now supporting Hassan Omar of the UDA.

Furthermore, political expert Herman Manyora believes that Kenya Kwanza pulled off a masterful ruse to win Sonko over to their cause and shake up a county that was previously thought to be the ODM’s stronghold. He emphasized that the flamboyant politician possesses three cards that he can use to influence the outcome of the election in Hassan Omar’s favor.
