On Monday, Mpatinga Ole Kamoye, a former councilor, was arraigned in a Narok Court for allegedly attempting to murder a 25-year-old man over a land dispute. Kamoye pleaded not guilty before Narok Senior Resident Magistrate Phylis Shinyada.
Court documents, viewed by Citizen Digital on April 15, 2023, state that Kamoye and his son, Penori Kamoye, 35, showed up at the Olashapani area in Ololunga location, Narok County, where the victim, Sointanae Tipango, and his brothers were building a cow shed.
The pair, who were armed with two pistols and a shotgun, fired without warning on Tipango and his kin, causing them to flee in fear. Tipango was shot in the lower abdomen during the commotion.
Kamoye’s family claimed that when they tried to help the wounded victim, they were met with additional gunfire. Village elders eventually helped get Tipango to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Kamoye surrendered himself at Ololulunga police station, but his son is still at large. Kamoye’s lawyer requested that he be released on bail, but Magistrate Shinyada denied the request due to the suspect’s previous arrests and charges for misusing his firearm.
The prosecution team also questioned whether Kamoye has a valid firearm license. A mention of Kamoye’s initial firearm license revocation will be heard on Wednesday, and he will remain in Narok Town Prison until then.
