On Thursday, Field Marshal Muthoni wa Kirima visited Mama Ngina Kenyatta, the First Lady of Kenya’s founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, to express her gratitude to her and her family for their kindness towards her in recent years.
The Field Marshal thanked Mama Ngina for paying off her pending bank loan of Ksh.4.7 million and buying her a home in Nyeri last year. She also thanked Mama Ngina for agreeing to travel to Nyeri on April 1, 2022, to shave her dreadlocks, which were donated to the Museum of Kenya.
Muthoni viewed this act as symbolizing the end of Kenya’s struggles under colonial rule, and the era of fighting for freedom was now behind.
The occasion, which took place at Mama Ngina’s Muthaiga home, was attended by over a dozen members of the Field Marshal’s immediate family and a few Kikuyu elders.
Mama Ngina received gifts from the Field Marshal’s family, including goats, a pot, a three-legged stool, a traditional tray, a kiondo (African basket), and food from her shamba.
Mama Ngina appreciated the visit, noting that the dreadlocks cut from the Field Marshal would remind future generations and visitors from around the world of the sacrifices made by some Kenyans for the country’s liberation.
