Former police spokesperson Charles Owino has formally withdrawn his candidacy for governor of Siaya County.
After dropping out of the contest, Owino now serves as the governor’s running mate, replacing former Rarieda Member of Parliament Nicholas Gumbo.
The two leaders joined the United Democratic Movement (UDM) party on Tuesday, revealing this.
They were greeted by party leader Ali Roba, who is also the governor of Mandera County and a senatorial candidate.
At the nominations round, Owino was expected to compete with Siaya Senator James Orengo, among others, for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket.
Gumbo, on the other hand, was planning to run for a position in the Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) party of Ugenya MP David Ochieng.
